Civil Engineering Technologist

The Civil Engineering Technologist performs a variety of engineering design, drafting and field duties under the direction of project team members. This includes preparing traffic models, developing engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts through completion, and preparing project specifications, schedules and reports. Field survey, traffic data collection and on-site construction inspection may be required.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Civil Engineering Technologist. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with minimal supervision and be results driven. This role will be based out of office in Burnaby, British Columbia.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Develop engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts and sketches for projects with transportation or traffic focus, involving lighting, signalling, signage, utilities, road design, and pavement markings
  • Prepare or review construction specifications, cost and material estimates, project schedules and reports
  • Conduct field surveys, inspections or technical investigations of pedestrian, road and highway systems, buildings and structures to collect data for engineering projects
  • Conduct or supervise inspection and testing of construction materials
  • Civil engineering technicians may perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Class 5 Driver’s License is required; access to a vehicle is an asset

Electrical Designer

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Prepare detailed drawings for electrical transportation systems including schematics, profiles, single line diagrams, site drawings, and circuit maps
  • Carry out detailed calculations to ensure designs meet engineering standards and applicable codes

Electrical Engineer-in-Training (EIT)

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as an Electrical Engineer in Training (EIT). The ideal candidate will be comfortable with minimal supervision and be results driven. This role will be based out of office in Burlington, ON.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Perform electrical design and calculations in accordance with the relevant Canadian and Industrial (API, IEEE, NEC) Standards and project specifications for streetlighting and transportation electrical systems
  • Direct the preparation of and/or prepare detailed designs for electrical systems using MicroStation and AutoCAD
  • Conduct engineering field reviews for preliminary investigation and to ensure constructability of design

  • Design automation systems including PLC, DCS and communication networks
  • Prepare instrument and control system layout drawings, installation drawings, loop diagrams, logic diagrams, specification sheets, panel layout, instrument index, cause & effect matrices, etc.
  • Specify instruments and final control devices
  • Develop control strategies and control narratives; provide P&ID assistance to Process Group
  • Prepare network diagrams and PLC/DCS gateway interface lists

  • Apply engineering concepts to assist in establishing design criteria for assigned projects
  • Support independent design reviews, model reviews, and hazards and operability evaluations
  • Check packages for design fitness, dimensional accuracy, and constructability
  • Monitor compliance with engineering and drafting standards to proactively ensure the quality and accuracy of technical deliverables
  • Ensure that work is checked in accordance with client and TWD’s standards and procedures
  • Working knowledge and good understanding of Electrical Code and Standards such OESC, CEC, CSA and IEEE.
  • Backdrafts redlines from check prints and markups as directed by the Electrical Engineer/Technologist
  • Creates drawings based on sketches, templates or previous designs.
  • Performs routine material take offs (MTO)

Qualifications:

  • Technical diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution in Electrical Design/Drafting.
  • 15+ years relevant electrical CAD experience (previous experience in design drafting or equivalent educational experience using CAD computer systems)
  • Certification in CAD or Drafting would be a strong asset
  • Experience with AutoCAD version 2014 or higher. Experience with Plant 3D is preferred
  • Experience with construction site, ability to perform site inspection and work closely with contractor during constructions.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office is a must
  • Work effectively independently and as a team member.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skill. Commitment and enthusiasm for learning.  Able to work and communicate in a team environment.

TWD is currently seeking a Process Engineering Lead, to work out of our Burlington Office. The ideal candidate needs to be experienced, well educated and a successful leader of a team of engineers in the delivery of project tasks and initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise, perform, and check calculations and design using both computer-aided and manual techniques.
  • Lead the development of process deliverables which includes (but not limited to): development of PFDs, P&IDs, line designation tables, data sheets and completing equipment sizing calculations, control philosophy, heat and material balance, operating procedures, risk assessments etc.
  • Lead development of process design for conceptual and feasibility studies, front-end process design and detailed engineering of capital projects.
  • Ensure all Process engineering activities are completed according to TWD processes and procedure, Client standards and all applicable Regulatory Codes, regulations, laws and standards.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to contribute to the improvement of Client operations, maintenance, process safety and reliability programs.
  • Facilitation of PHA reviews.
  • Conduct research and participate in strategic technology assessments and evaluations of chemical process technology in order to expand TWD business in existing and new areas.
  • Assist project managers with schedules, estimates, progress reports, meetings, procurement, activities, etc.
  • Organize and plan jobs with respect scope, resources, budget and schedule.
  • BD activities including presentations to clients, development of proposals and provision of process engineering estimates for proposals.
  • Support requirements for process validations and conduct process simulations.
  • Develop and communicate detailed engineering reports and studies and present them to clients and senior management.
  • Participate and potentially lead conceptual development projects in areas of process and mechanical support.
  • Direct and guide other TWD team members in areas of process investigations and validations, including staff, contract and co-op students.
  • Capable of developing scoping study, design basis memorandums and participations in engineering design specifications and detail engineering.
  • Assist in the ongoing development of TWD internal systems to improve our quality and efficiency of delivering effective projects to clients.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering Certification (P.Eng).
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in process engineering design in an EPC environment, preferably serving the industrial and petrochemical industry.
  • Strong experiences and knowledge with process simulations and associated tools (e.g., ASPEN HYSYS, AFT Fathom, AFT Impulse) for both static and dynamic simulation.
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards including TSSA, ABSA, API, ASME, NFPA, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in process safety design systems.
  • Must possess leadership and coaching skills in the development, training and mentoring of team members
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (must be willing to communicate with all levels of management), a positive attitude, and a track record of delivering  on all commitments.
  • Demonstrated experience meeting tight deadlines and managing time appropriately.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry, generating facilities, or power distribution systems.

The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for managing all aspects of electrical design by the electrical project teams. The role will be in charge of leading projects for the goal to successfully implement the designs developed to meet our client's requirements. The Senior Electrical Engineer oversees solutions to technical problems and is responsible for job planning and quality production.

Job Responsibilities:

  • This position requires thorough knowledge of design and engineering, electrical procurement and construction activities.
  • Perform electrical design and calculations in accordance with the relevant Canadian and Industrial (API, IEEE, NEC) Standards and client preferences.
  • Support proposal preparation, estimates, design basis, engineering estimates and construction work packages at each design phase (FEED, DBM, Detailed Engineering).
  • Manage projects of varying sizes within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Perform power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination and arc flash, including report writing
  • Design and review of engineering deliverables such as:
    • Hazardous Area Classification Drawings;
    • Single Line diagrams, schematic and wiring diagrams;

    • Equipment sizing, cable sizing, voltage drop, lighting calculations;
  • Preparation and review of specifications, data sheets, technical bid evaluations and procurement documentation for LV/MV equipment
  • Review and sign off Inspection Test Plans and quality check forms
  • Follow up with Electrical suppliers’ representative and facilitate electrical testing and commissioning at site
  • Respond to site RFIs based on applicable standards and electrical codes
  • When required, assumes a project lead role for completing specific tasks, including checking and provide technical guidance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) degree, or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum 10 years experience in the oil and gas sector
  • Experience developing engineering estimates, schedules, and resource plans for electrical engineering work
  • Professional Engineering License in the Province of Ontario is required
  • Experience with design of LV, MV, and HV power distribution systems for industrial facilities is required
  • Experience with electrical area classifications for oil & gas facilities is required
  • Experience with arc flash protection and studies is required
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Plant3D an asset
