Mechanical Engineering Discipline Lead

At TWD, we are leaders in the design of mechanical and electrical systems for data centres, commercial buildings, educational, institutional, residential and industrial building projects and fleet maintenance facilities. We work with Owners, Developers, Architects, Contractors, Federal, Provincial and Municipal Governments, Property Managers, and other consultants design team members to provide Consulting Engineering Services for both new and existing buildings. Job Summary

Manage the Burnaby Mechanical Engineering Team on a day-to-day basis to achieve successful project outcomes within budget and on schedule at the quality required to the satisfaction of TWD and external stakeholders. Direct, Mentor and Lead the team to maintain core competencies and grow the competence, confidence, and experience of the team members. Participate in Business Development activities and TWD ‘Seller-Doer’ culture to promote the TWD brand to new Clients in order to win new business.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the Regional General Manager and TWD Corporate to implement TWD polices, aligning Mechanical Engineering operations with said policies
  • Oversee the operations of the Burnaby office Mechanical Engineering team.
  • Interpret and apply engineering work processes and standards on all projects
  • Give technical guidance, review important project documents produced by their discipline and periodically review each Project with the Project Lead Discipline Engineer or Project Manager.
  • Oversees projects in developing HVAC calculations, drawings, 3D Models, data sheets, project related specifications and other design documentation as required.
  • Review, certification and stamping of mechanical services drawings
  • Providing technical guidance, mentoring and quality assurance to Mechanical Engineers/Designers on projects.
  • Proactively reassign the discipline personnel from one project to another in agreement with the variable workloads of the projects and to give the applicable technical knowledge.
  • Verify the quality assurance and quality control programs on the project
  • Make sure that all work agrees with the established processes, procedures and standards
  • Hire and administer engineering personnel in their discipline in agreement with TWD policies and procedures
  • Meet established TWD Engineering KPIs that drive company cost performance and profitability
  • Perform ongoing performance coaching and evaluation;
  • Perform annual performance reviews, plan employee development and career progressions, identify and organize training.
  • Investigate and review the actions to correct reported errors, omissions and non-conformances.
  • Meet with the General Manager to prepare annual overhead budgets for the department
  • Contribute to TWD Business Development activities to bring in work
  • Help to prepare proposals including work-hour estimates in agreement with the scope of work
  • Monitor discipline budgets, productivity and schedules.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or in a related engineering discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Mechanical Engineering HVAC design and Mechanical building systems
  • Project Management experience or a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation would be a strong asset
  • Must possess leadership and coaching skills in the development, training and mentoring of team members
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, particularly the ability to write technical documentation and communicate discipline requirements to other members of the project team
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office, MS Project and Document Control software to facilitate electronic document and drawing reviews and distribution

Office Administrator

GNEC is a progressive engineering consulting company specializing in the design of: Roadway Lighting, Traffic Systems, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Building Systems, and Power Distribution. GNEC is a wholly owned subsidiary of TWD Technologies Ltd – and we are growing.


We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team in the role of Office Administrator for 4 – 6 months. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with minimum supervision and be results driven. This role will support three offices in the Lower Mainland: one GNEC and one TWD office in Burnaby, and one GNEC in Langley, under the direction of the Office Manager.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • General office administration including keeping inventory and ordering office, kitchen and maintenance supplies;
  • Maintain a professional and welcoming office over and above the maintenance services provided by outside contractors;
  • Assist with project coordination with regard to project deliverables and submissions, document control, payment status, and scheduling;
  • Assist with data entry, filing, invoicing and A/R collections
  • Process credit card payments and deposit cheques; record payments in accounting system
  • Assist in the production of proposals, reports and other documents;
  • Arrange and track shipping by courier of documents and drawings;
  • Assist in business development activities including arranging attendance at conferences, production of promotional materials, ordering materials, set up of conference booths, etc.;
  • Assist in updating intranet, GNEC website, LinkedIn accounts and other social media accounts;
  • Draft project write ups and prepare project sheets for promotional purposes;
  • Assist in the creation and formatting of Microsoft Office documents;
  • Generate simple office management type reports;
  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of meeting agendas and minutes and follow up on action items;
  • Arrange meals and refreshments for office events;
  • Assist in digital and hard copy file management including filing;
  • Answer phones, direct calls and take messages;
  • Water plants;
  • Undertake regular cleaning and sanitizing of offices in accordance with COVID19 Safety Plans (expected to only be short term); and
  • Travel between the three offices although based primarily in the Burnaby office.

What You'll Need:

  • Fluency in English;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Computer literacy including intermediate experience with Microsoft products and other typical office software;
  • 3+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in an office administration;
  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in business administration or related field is considered an asset;
  • Previous experience in an office administration position, or a similar capacity, is required;
  • Prior project coordination experience is preferred;
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles (invoicing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, etc);
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced office environment;
  • Class 5 BC Drivers License.

Senior Cost Estimator

TWD is an engineering, procurement, and construction management consulting company providing project development, execution and specialty engineering services for the oil and gas industry with expertise ranging from refinery, pipelines, terminalling and blending, renewables, food and beverage, power, downstream chemical processing, and much more. Our team is dedicated to providing clients with effective business and technical solutions through exceptional levels of service, innovation and flexibility.

TWD is currently seeking a Senior Cost Estimator to support our office(s)! This position is open to Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia or New Brunswick. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Using Aspen Economic Evaluation software, prepare multi‐disciplined project estimates; prepare and manage cost estimates for all sizes of Energy projects, including Oil and Gas facilities, Pipelines, and Green Energy per AACEI guidelines.
  • Develop and coordinate estimate plans for projects of all size and complexity.
  • Provide bases of estimates and conduct CCE using the basis of estimate.
  • Present estimates for internal and client reviews, answer questions and confidently explain details
  • Review and revise CCE policy and procedures with aim to increase accuracy and consistency of estimates
  • Manage small team of supporting CCE staff and lead estimate revies with project teams
  • Provide input into business development activities as to the level of effort required to complete CCE scope
  • Able to work on multiple projects concurrently
  • Assist project services with project schedule development and updates

Qualifications

  • 10 years minimum revelent experience in energy, oil and gas, pipeline and industrial projects
  • Post Secondary Education in engineering, technology, or applicable trades
  • Formal training using ASPEN Cost Estimator
  • Proficient with MS Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • AACE Certification is a benefit
  • Proficiency in MS Project or Primavera would be an asset
